Mixed review for Trattoria Il Mulino, Park Slope

I had not been for a while, but had previously enjoyed the friendly service and pleasant surroundings. Today, the waiter decided to seat us in a small corner table next to the serving area, despite the fact that only 3 other tables were taken. The waiter had to wedge himself behind me to get plates/silverware and we asked to move. He agreed unhappily, even though he had just seated a solo diner at a nice table for 4! Service for the remainder of the meal was perfunctory at best.

I had a lunch special - $10.95 for an appetizer, main course, and beverage (which includes a glass of wine) chosen from a special menu. Pretty good deal, except that the servings are about half their normally quite larger size. My caprese consisted of 2 small slices of mozzarella and 2 slices of too-cold tomato served on a small wedge of lettuce. But my main course, penne alla vodka, was very well made - flavorful and with a nice bite. My companion's regular-sized linguine w/pesto (chosen from the regular menu) was excellent and clearly made with fresh basil. Based on these two dishes, I'd say their food has improved, and other yummy looking pasta dishes were coming out of the kitchen.

Anyways, I left a small tip and hope they'll be a little nicer next time!
