Had a fabulous experience at Misto last weekend. New restaurant, open about 9 mo, got a good review from Toronto Life so we tried it for a birthday celebration. It is your standard storefront building, not jazzed up too much but clean and tidy. The concept is Japanese/Swiss fusion (!) - the history is that it is run by a very friendly young couple who have only been in Canada 8 years... he (chef) is Swiss, she (front of house) is Japanese. They both went out of their way to chat to people at all the tables and they are quite engaging. Laid back, casual (jeans OK) environment, not "hipster" or clubby. We had the fondue with kirsch - nice fresh bread to dip and when we had some cheese left over the manager offered some veggies to dip (yum!). She also personally scraped the "cheese cookie" out of the pot for us to eat when we finished... grilled cheese (yum). We also had a fresh, tasty salad, good (above average) apple pie, and a bottle of Swiss wine recommended by the Japanese lady which went perfectly with the fondue (Swiss wine...a new experience for me!). I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for someplace unique and friendly. For anyone in the neighborhood it is a HUGE find as there is not another place locally that can compare. If you are set on the fondue call first as the chef mentioned he may be taking it off the menu over the summer because it is a "winter" dish. I will definitely be back.
