Misso - review

mitchh | Mar 10, 2008 11:10 AM

Being such fans of Bruce from Sushikazu my expectations for Misso were set very high and I can honestly say that Bruce exceeded these expectations.

Right off the bat, the location at 1326 Spruce is extremely convenient as there is a parking lot within 50 yards of Misso's front door. Since I came in from 8th Street I didn't even realize that the restaurant is a half a block from Broad Street and all of the theaters.

The physical appearance of Misso is very warm and inviting. As you walk in, immediately to the right is large table for 10 that would be absolutely perfect for a large sushi party. The decor is very nice and not over the top and the sushi bar is extremely comfortable.

As for the food, it was as if I went back in time as I remember why I frequented Sushikazu so often. Bruce has not lost his touch with how he cuts his sushi and sashimi nor has he lost his touch of fusing together flavors. IMO he is as good as it gets blending spicy with sweet (the Area 51 roll is an example of this with spicy tuna topped with a slice of very thin jalapeno pepper and a slice of kiwi).

If the downtown hounds are seeking a new sushi restaurant to try, I highly recommend Misso. I am very confident that you will not be disappointed.
