I just rented a house on Mission Beach and I think I screwed up for a number of reasons.
--A) my mother says its a barfy sardine packed party beach and
--2)that its a "Culinary Wasteland"
I was born and raised in Chula Vista and granted, was not a youthful food enthusiast but did love Roberto's and my grandpas bar, El Tampico. I also loved going to TJ and getting that damn hotdog wrapped in bacon & that fantastic street taco! mmmm. There used to be a somewhat fancy mini-chain when I came back to visit near Old Town(I think the other was in Encinitas or Del Mar-this was the early 90's!) that was sort of nouvelle as I recall so I know SD has dives and chic places.
I have been in SF for over 10 years and am now pretty spoiled with both terrific strip mall/dive food and five star celebrity chef havens.
I am open to a really nice meal to a crazy scary one(not in the Cafe Sevilla way, ack!)-I will have a car-I basically know my way around-anything you suggest for both MB/PB location and beyond would be appreciated.
Oh and drinking recs are great too!
