It's a long shot, but I gotta try.
Growing up in the 70s, we used to go to a small dive place along Mission Blvd that had the BEST hoagies. Concrete floors, no decor to speak of, just a sandwich counter. Made by a gruff old guy, the place was on the west side, somewhere north of Santa Clara and south of the Catamaran.
Something about the mix of ingredients and the special herby powder (probably just Italian seasoning) and the onions. ANd the oil/vinegar that soaked through the paper wrapping. My only exposure to hoagies that were not just rebranded torpedos.
Anyone remember this old guy?
