Mish-Mash Mexican at Tequila Sunrise, Larchmont...

gutreactions | Apr 8, 201907:01 AM

It was late morning Sunday, made a stop at Costco in New Rochelle, and were in the mood for brunch. The New Rochelle Diner was right there, but my companion was in the mood for Mexican so we decided to drive up the Tequila Sunrise in Larchmont. Had not been here for a while. The place is still pretty: Mexican crafted furnishings, paintings, artifacts and murals, the colorful Mexican calendars. Of late, we have been frequenting the newer Rio Bravo on Palmer Ave.

We wanted to sit inside on this mild day, and the outdoor tables did fill up as we ate. We went for the Mexican brunch menu which offered 2-courses for $20 and included a cocktail. A round of Sangria for the both of us: the red had more going for it than the white. I ordered a Caesar Salad which came with a creamy dressing and was mildly good. For my main, I went for the house-made Chorizo Hash & Eggs with avocado, smashed potatoes and sauteed vegetables. I requested my eggs over easy. The dish was flavorful. My companion started with a very good platter of Nachos done the real Mexican way, flat pieces with tasty toppings, not a mountain. We liked that one. Her main was Eggs Benedict Azteca with 3 poached eggs on top of a big mound of sauteed vegetables, guacamole, sautéed shrimp, with a creamy avocado sauce. The poached eggs were overcooked a bit, but the whole dish was ok. (There was enough to take home and make some quesadillas another day.) On the side we both enjoyed an order of Mexican Street Corn. Very tasty, indeed. Service was pleasant and friendly.

Caveat: It was an ok meal overall, but oddly, the main dishes that came out of the kitchen were not as described on the menu...
