I used to be a member of a local organic produce co-op for many years but eventually it fell apart. I wasn't that heartbroken as it was getting pretty expensive.
I recently discovered Misfits Market (thanks FB). They claim to sell organic fruits and vegetables that aren't "perfect"--maybe too big, too small, misshapen, dented, etc. I've been buying the smaller box and having it shipped every other week. That is 10-20 pounds of organic produce and the cost after shipping is only like $23.
I have always loved getting this type of produce delivery because it varies every time and forces me to eat different things. . . not be stuck in a rut. What I have been amazed with, though, is that almost everything sent is in perfect condition. Yes, I've had some smaller sweet potatoes or some nectarines with weird marks on them, but I'd say 90% or more of the stuff is PERFECT.
Does anyone else use these types of deliveries? If so, what do you think?
