My husband and I were asked last night to host his family holiday get-together on Sunday the 23rd. Normally, we'd be more than excited about it, however we are both working all week with some overtime and have solid plans for Friday night, which gives us yes, 1 day to prepare! They'll be somewhere in the area of 25 people and most are very good about bringing items to share. The only way we can pull this off is pure simplicity (which I am not accustomed to) and a little help from Costco;)!
Here's what I have planned so far:
Costco spiral-sliced ham (served with bakery rye & sourdough sliced breads, cheeses, good quality mustard/mayo
Crock-pot giardeniera (served with mini french rolls and provolone, along with extra giardeniera on the side)
Costco mac & cheese
The ol' retro meatballs (Costco frozen) in crock-pot with chili sauce/grape jelly sauce
Costco frozen mini quiches
Veggies & dip
Homemade cookies (kolachkies, thumbprint, snowballs, potato chip cookies, crunchy fudge squares)
Veggies & dip
Wine (lots of it!)
Contributions mentioned so far:
2 cheese balls & crackers
Dessert (she's a fantastic baker, so anything she brings will be wonderful)
As I mentioned, they are very good about contributing.... I know we're lacking veggie dishes, salads and some additional apps and desserts.
I typically like to let guests bring their specialties, but considering this is very short-notice, any recommendations on what I could be suggesting? TIA!
