Minneapolis: The Mel-O-Glaze Bakery

28th Ave. S. and Minnehaha Parkway. A locally owned (and amazingly inexpensive) alternative to Krispy Kreme. Health food it ain't, but it's wonderful. The specialty is apple fritters. Fabulous. Their doughnuts are also terrific as are their "crispies", wide flat sugary cinnamony... things. I've never seen anything in there that any actual nutritive value. Bread, for example. But the sweet stuff is great. They used to have a corner store but they turned it into a doggie bakery and moved into a rough space next door. Concrete floors, few amenities. The doggie bakery has gone under, so maybe they'll move back.
