I have two Minneapolis food tips that I have discovered recently that I wanted to pass along. First, is the octopus salad in the prepared foods case at United Noodles. The octopus salad has tender pieces of octopus and Asian beans in a light ginger and seasme sauce. It is great. It is next to the seaweed salad (also good, but not as big a stand out) in the Japanese foods section of this great Asian market. I think this salad is up there with anything I have had at the Japanese restaurants in town.
The other tip is the tamales at La Loma in Mercado Central at Bloomington and E. Lake Street. I had the chicken with salsa verde tamale and the pork in red sauce tamale and both were great. La Loma is the juice bar at the front of Mercado Central, slightly removed from the other stands in the food court. I also had a good soft taco at Taqueria La Hacienda in Mercado Central, which was good, but the real winner was the tamales at La Loma.
