Caught sight of this place on the way to the Atwater Post Office there other day. Very excited to have a Brazilian place so close to home (my family's originally from Brazil and I miss my Mom's cooking). So later that day, I grab a fellow chowhound and stopped by for an early dinner.
Place is very small, maybe 10 small tables. Decor is bright and cheery -- none of that ersatz jungle decor that so many Brazilian places succumb to. I ordered the Chicken Stroganoff ($11.95) which BTW is a staple in Brazilian diet -- go figure! It came with a side of rice and a small chopped salad. The very tasty stroganoff was generous with the chicken and mushrooms. My friend order the "Carioca" ($10.95) grilled chicken with black beans, rice and plantains. Chicken came with grilled onions, the black beans were excellent -- a bit on the soupy side, which is how I prefer them. His only quibble -- just 2 pieces of yummy plantains, he wanted more!
No beer and wine yet. But the owner was cool with us doing the BYOB thing. Apparently they've been opened since the beginning of July but with the construction on Glendale Blvd's sidewalk they've been kinda hidden away. Construction crews are now gone thus allowing Paraiso to put a couple of tables outside.
P.s. -- after dinner we checked out the candle shop next door. And were please to discover beautiful, inexpensive candles -- made on site.
