A Mina Thanksgiving

Pat Hammond | Nov 27, 2003 05:22 PM

My family went out of town, and I opted not to go. I sure didn’t want to cook a turkey, but I wanted a special day, nonetheless. I thought about going to Chinatown to eat, but I heard Mina’s siren call.
When I got there today there was a nice couple already eating, and that was it.
I’d circled my choices on the menu I had at home and I was ready! I had a rose lassi (less rosie than my first one there, but delicious), vegetable samosas with the green minty sauce, Alu Palak (potato, spinach, onion and spices), and the Malai Kofta. Everything was hot, spicy enough, when it should have been, and delicious. The Mali Kofta (fried mashed potato and cheese balls, in an amazing sauce) were out of this world. Now that I look back, I realize that I sure had a lot of potatoes!
I’d eaten my fill, and was pleased to see I didn’t have much to take home with me, when the lady who waited on me stopped by my table with a dinner plate HEAPED with fried rice, with meat, peppers, onions and green peas. "My Thanksgiving to you", she said. Yikes! I could only gape at it. Then, THEN, she brought over a bowl with three desserts: the sweet yogurt dessert, a saffron colored rice with fruit, and rice pudding. I was beginning to sweat.
She brought a plate of friend rice to the couple sitting behind me too! I hope they also got dessert.
I now have enough food from Mina for two more meals plus dessert. What a great day! There was even a "Mariachi" band on the #7 going out.
