Mimosa in West Chester

Suger | Sep 4, 2004 11:40 AM

We tried Mimosa, a BYOB off of Route 3 in West Chester, for the first time last night. It is located in the Summit Hills Apt. Complex right past a large church. I think the location makes it hard to attract customers. In any case, we arrived around 7:30 and there were two other tables filled. A few more diners came later but for a Friday night it was pretty empty. Perhaps the Labor Day weekend was a factor... Decor is fine, low-lighting with candles.
The menu has a few tapas selections which we didn't try. We started with a spring mix salad with mandarin oranges, almonds and local goat cheese in a champagne vinagerette. Very tasty. I had the tenderloin with mushrooms over mashed potatoes for my entree. I really enjoyed the flavor and quality of the beef. My husband had the "white" tuna (aka butter fish) which topped with crabmeat in a pineapple glaze of sorts over, I think, a ginger risotto. He really enjoyed it yet didn't care for the cold crabmeat on top.
For dessert we had the peanut butter and chocolate mousse cake. Extremely rich but very good. A bit more whipped cream and fruit would have been nice to balance the richness. The chef came out as we finished our meal and chatted with patrons.
The menu changes slightly each month so there are no specials. The bill came to about $68 before tip. All in all, we enjoyed the meal and will return again.
