Millet Muffins a la Metropolitan Bakery Philly: Question abt Recipe and poss to make lighter?

These are almost more like cupcakes in their yumminess and amt of sugar and butter. I don't know where else one can find muffins like these, but in the past, I had very similar ones at the Clarkesburg Bakery in Williamstown MA, but they've since closed. The recipe is linked below. The thing is, it calls for 1.5 sticks of butter and 1c of brown sugar, for 12 muffins. Since these are SO good and it's likely I could eat two...I'd like to lighten them up. I was thinking that using applesauce or yogurt in place of at least 1/2c butter might help. But then, how much of either to use? 1/2 c? What about the sugar, if i use 1/2 c sugar, do i put in applesauce to make up for that? If so, do i then reconfigure the amt i'd use as butter sub?
You guys are so good at this sort of thing, please help! Thank you!
