Milk frothing machines

eethan | Dec 10, 2011 09:47 AM

I'm thinking of getting a milk frothing machine (e.g., [capresso] or [nespresso]) for my parents, who have an espresso machine but don't seem interested in mastering steaming technique. (I know, the results don't taste quite the same) --

Does anyone have experience with these types of machines (those two or others)? Can you get foam with a similar structure to steaming, even if the flavour is not the same? Online reviews seem to be really impressed by the ease-of-use, but I'm having a harder time discerning whether the foam they give is a close approximation to that of good steamed milk--nice and dense--or if they just excite reviewers by dint of making frothy hot chocolate, etc.
