Mildred Pierce: terrible experience

Bruce Mac | Jun 19, 2006 02:28 PM

I usually try to just comment when I have a really good experience at a restaurant, however my experience this weekend was so poor that I thought it merited my posting to comment on it.

We thought we'd have a nice brunch, and from past experiences at Mildred Pierce, it was an easy decision to decide to go there. We were a bit concerned about the wait and so called first to check how busy they were. After being reassured that we could be accomodated (party of 6) we met up at the restaurant. We did have to wait about 30-45 minutes, however there was a nice breeze and we were fine with that. Once we had been seated however, the situation deteriorated. During the 1+ hour which we waited for our scones and breakfast we received very little attention, I think the waitress dropped by once to ask if we'd like more coffee. The food arrived and we were disappointed to discover that both orders of pancakes were raw... pointing this out to the staff they whisked them away (without any sort of apology) and we were left again to wait... by this point I'd noticed that there were at least 6 empty tables (a few 2 seaters), so it was puzzling that the time and service quality were both so poor.

We didn't mention anything to the staff as of course I understand they don't cook the food, they're not responsible for the number of staff, etc... but when leaving we mentioned the issue to the manager and his retort was that it was just a really busy day for them.

What a disappointment! And so poorly handled by them.

Needless to say we'll explore other options for nice brunches in the future.
