We had the opportunity to dine at Mildred Pierce on Saturday night. Well, a great experience overall.
We had some mixed appetizers at my place, so both couples split an app. The SO and I split the shrimp and crab cakes with celeriac and roasted fennel. Mmm. Very light cakes. Not the least bit greasy as I normally find them. A very light salad as well that mixed well with the cakes. The parents split the bitter sweet greens. They both commented that the salad tasted both 'bitter' and 'sweet'. Hmmmm.... Interesting;) They said it was quite nice though. The kitchen split it up for them which I thought was a nice touch.
The mains brought the steak special with strange rectangular potatoes, sautéed spinach and a 10 oz steak (rib eye?) au jus, cooked perfectly. This was for Parent # 1 and the SO. Parent # 2 had the chicken which she raved about. I had the fish special which was excellent. It was a white fish... I think it was porgy. It was excellent. Incredible! Crisp on the outside and moist and flavorful inside. It was served on braised bok choi and 3 or 4 enormous butternut squash ravioli. Absolutely delicious. It kicked Splendido's rump IMHO.
Desert was shared between us consisting of the profiteroles and the citrus sorbet. The sorbet was very fresh and crisp. The profiteroles were good, but I've had amazing profiteroles before, so my basis for comparison may not be fair. Let's just say they were good. I will try something else next time.
Overall, I was blown away by the food. The service was a little slow, but there was a huge table there that probably threw off the timing of the kitchen. An amazing experience. I will be back!
