Micrometer - Or How Do You Measure Your Cookware?

Pertti | Jun 26, 202010:18 PM     16

What device are you using to measure:

1. Sidewall thickness
2. Bottom thickness and how.

I've had the idea it would be nice to measure some of my current cookware and candidate new cookware thicknesses. However I don't have any feasible device for that purpose.

I have found eg this device, that looks promising to me for sidewall thickness. It won't be a fit to measure bottom thickness though, I'm afraid. Also thought that the measuring heads should be as thin as possible, as pans are often curved in their sidewalls. I think the larger the measuring heads, the larger the error could be? To open up a bit more, I think the larger heads would touch the sides of the center measuring point on the inside of the pan, leaving some air in the middle possibly. Then the outer head will contact the middle point. This could return a slightly thicker measurement than reality I figured.:

Are there any large enough U shape in some micrometers to accommodate measuring also the bottom of pan with the same device? I'm talking without any gimmicks, but straight put it in there and measure the bottom.
