Based on an earlier post (see link below), we decided to try Michael's Grill in Santee. I had eaten there a couple of years back and didn't have anything that knocked my socks off. Well, Kathleen raved about the sole fillet, so I had to try it. Oh, yum. She was absolutely right. It was so melt-in-your-mouth tender, in a soy-ginger sauce served over fresh steamed spinach, with a side bowl of sticky rice. Jim had the steak and panko-crusted shrimp, which he absolutely loved. The steak was a nice cut, done the way he would cook a steak (he asked me to state that), with 4 large succulent shrimp and THE most awesome "panko sauce". We asked what was in it, but even the waitperson didn't know. Says it's the chef's secret. Someone please go dissect this sauce for me. I'd love to recreate it at home. Another selling point for Michael's in our book - my husband likes iceberg salads and I like dark mixed greens, which is a long-running joke between us. Here they give you a choice! Boy, was he a happy diner! If you're in the area, give it a try. They even have a small but decent wine list.
