miang kum in Thai Town?

Spoony Bard | Sep 30, 2004 11:56 AM

Hi all,

Does anyone know where I can find miang kum in Thai Town? It seems to be rare in these parts. I'd prefer somewhere that has quality main dishes to match, of course.

For those who don't know, miang k(h)um is a kind of bar/street food wrap composed of seasonal greens (usually spinich in the U.S., something more herbal in Thailand) on which comes ginger, peanuts, chili, onions, chopped limes, dried shrimp, toasted coconut and a sauce for dipping (shrimp-based with citrus notes). It's like a party in your mouth, and everyone's invited.

I was so sad when the experts in Changmai cuisine at Top Thai in Reseda told me that they once had it, but took it off because it was too much work and not enough orders. My waitress seemed to think there was somewhere in Thai Town I could find it.

Thanks all, and keep chowing!
