Mi Lindo Yucatan, SF and Pizza Italia, Fremont

Arlene | Mar 2, 200406:24 PM

I tried Mi Lindo Yucatan w/ some hounds on Sun 2/29/04 based on past reviews on the board. It seemed very much hyped up and sounded so good, unfortunately I didn't see what the fuss was!

chips and salsas-I don't eat fried stuff so can't comment on the chips. Salsas I tried w/ the food. Milder one-weird taste and I prefer salsas with tons of tomatoes, onions, cilantro. Hotter one-nice, but can only use just a tiny bit of it.

Appetizer sampler-nothing special for me because I didn't eat any of the fried stuff.

brazo de reina-tamale. Very bland, no taste at all.

cochinita pibil-roasted pork in banana leaf. I ate lots of this but wasn't impressed, wish there was more sauce and spice to it. Just a huge pile of meat to me.

poc chuc-grilled yucatan pork steak. I liked this dish. It wasn't dry and ok which I stuffed into my tortillas.

Pozole-I don't like hominy. It was not tender enough, but the soup was great to dip my tortillas into. Didn't eat the fried tortillas (had to take them out), what's left is a reddish bland soup w/ fatty chicken?

handmade tortillas-I liked that it was hot (temperate wise) but taste just like other tortillas I've had.

queso neapolitan w/ ice-cream. Like a thicker flan. Good.

pastel de manjar-soft graham cracker over a gelatin like thing and dollop of cream and sprinkles. Not good.

rice pudding-I don't like rice pudding.

Service was good, food average. Total damage $15pp.

Since I was dying to try it for the stromboli made a trip there. The lady at the counter says Tony Di Maggio's is her brother-in-law (he has a restaurant same name and serves stromboli there), so I was very excited to try it.

I got the small (5.75) and with tax it's $6.22
Waited like 15 minutes. There were two guys sitting and eating at the bar at 12 noon today. I was sitting by myself in the rest of the empty restaurant.

Got the stromboli and she put the tomato sauce on the side. I think it would taste better with the sauce all over it and cooked that way.

Wasn't impressed. Too chewy and full of everything in it including the yellow mustard. Like a hot pocket but tons more expensive. Save your money!! A small did me in cuz now it's almost 4:30pm and still have food coma, and probably gained 5 lbs.
