After The Loyalist on Friday, http://www.chowhound.com/post/loyalis... , we stopped at Mezcaleria Las Flores on the way home. It's attached to Johnny's Grill but has its own entrance as well.
My friend asked the bartender to make a recommendation for something with lighter body. He poured him a joven that turned out to be almost syrupy in weight and not at all what he requested. The set-up included a slice of a sad orange and some chile and sesame salt.
I had the "It's Lit" cocktail, $11 with Ballam raicilla, Nux alpina walnut, fresh ginger, Rothman & Winter apricot, and fresh lemon. The ginger was overpowering and the drink tasted too medicinal to me.
No chapulines or gusanos are served. Though the drinks were underwhelming, the lady DJ was great. The place felt like a meat market so other than the music, there's not much reason for me to return.
We closed out my initial night in Chicago here at 2am.
