I tasted my first mezcal today with a oaxaquena friend at El agave. It was amazing: smokey, spicy and much more playful, lively than its tequila cousin.
It was the single village artisanal mezcal of Oaxaca put out by Del Maguey. We had the San Luis.
The bartender - who was thousand times better than the server snobs I have had endure before - was extremely nice. He even opened a bottle of the Pechuga for us to smell - exquisite.
The sangrita was much more tomatoey this time round - not to my liking.
