I just made a big batch of mexican hot chocolate for a spanish class project pleaser, and wow! it is oh so good! makes you (almost!) feel like you're sitting in the lovely little Choclaterie (sp?) in the movie Chocolat, sipping devilishly good chili-spiced drink as the town looks through the window at you. Here is the recipe. Truly: make some!! (and drink it while watching Chocolat if you haven't seen it. It's very good.)
Agasajos (mexican hot chocolate)
Bring to a gentle boil and simmer for a few minutes:
4 cups milk
dried arbol (ar any) chili
zest of 1/2 and orange
1 tsp. rosewater
1/4 cup sugar-optional
Turn off heat, strain and add:
4 oz. semisweet chocolate-grated or chopped.
Stir chocolate until melted and add a splash of vanilla
I didn't add the saffron or rosewater b/c i was making so much but I'm sure it's excellent. Truly: try some. It's awesome!
