I want to take a good friend out for her birthday this coming Friday and she loves Mexican food, but her family hates it, so she hardly ever gets to eat it...and she rarely goes out to eat (monetary reasons), so I'd like this to be really good and really special. She's not a foodie, but really does enjoy Mexican food, but on the milder side.
I've lived in Tucson for 3 years, and oddly enough, haven't been to a lot of Mexican restaurants. El Charro mostly...tried La Parilla Suiza once and some other Sonoran-style place. (El Molina? I'm bad with names.) Also tried La Fuente's brunch a long time ago. I've heard that South Tucson has the best places, but I'm a bit concerned about 2 women going into that part of town at night alone. So...I'm looking for expert advice from the southwestern chowhounds. I've seen some posts about Mi Nidito and Cafe Poca Cosa...if either of those fit the bill then let me know. All suggestions are most welcome.
