I'll be in town for Thanksgiving and I'm planning on exploring a little more of the L.A. chow scene, I'm thinking Mexican this time. I'm going to hit LSR on the way down from SF, then probably Guelaguetza for dinner.
Here's the problem: I've only got Friday to do this and I need to provide shopping alternatives for the two women who will be with me. A few department stores and a mall will suffice, except I'm not eating in a mall food court. I have very little patience for parking lots, so I'm hoping to find a place we can park in the morning and spend most of a day shopping and eating breakfast & lunch without the need to drive to a second location in the middle of the day.
So, I'm thinking of hitting the 3rd Fairfax market so I can try Loteria, plus maybe a few other food goodies. There are some stores at the market (Cost Plus, Sur La Table) that'll keep the women happy, but I fear there will not be enough for a whole day of shopping. Are there other places to shop near the market that require no more than a healthy walk to reach?
If not, any suggestions for another area to hit with loads of shopping and inexpensive/excellent chow? Someplace like SF's Union Square would be great. Burbank mall, Glendale Galleria, Santa Monica Promenade...are there any chow destinations there? I'm willing to give up on Mexican if necessary.
Please, spare me the nightmare of fighting afternoon Christmas shopping traffic!
