Mexican in Buffalo

New York State (exc. NYC) Mexican Buffalo

Hello friends. Years ago my friends and I would head to La Galera for our Mexican fix when we visited Buffalo (from Toronto). I see it's still around but their website isn't accessible due to a bandwidth issue it seems.

I'm wondering whether this place is still good or whether there are better places to go for a good, hearty Mexican meal. I'm looking for comfort food vs a Rick Bayless calibre meal.

Mighty Taco? <ducks>. There's not much to choose from, since Buffalo doesn't have a big Mexican population and generally the best you can expect is Tex-Mex. There have been some new ones opening recently - Valle of Mexico in South Park has gotten good reviews, but I haven't been there.

While I've only been once, I thought the food at El Ranchito, located on Main St. in Clarence, NY, was fine. El Ranchito had more vegetarian meal options than most local Mexican spots. My friends love it. The menu is large and vast.

Here's a link to a Buffalo News article about El Ranchito:

I trust the News' reviewer Andrew Galarneau's opinions, and he recently wrote about another area Mexican spot, El Agave in Cheektowaga: http://buffalo.com/2015/06/18/feature...

Thanks so much smooter. El Agave fits the bill perfectly. We were looking for somewhere to have dinner after shopping at Walden Galleria so the Cheektowaga location is perfect and the menu looks great. I'll report back...thanks again!
