Two friends and I had a disappointing meal at the packed, fiercely noisy new restaurant at the corner of West 4th and West 10th. At 8:30 P.M., they were out of the plat du jour (but had the fish specials from the previous days). Considering how traditional the bistro menu is, it's unfortunate that so many of the items on the menu are described poorly. The peasant salad, with tomatoes, onions, and arugula had so little arugula that it looked like a steakhouse tomato and onion salad with a garnish. The "roasted vegetables" that accompanied my scallops "Provencal" were so small they were hidden by tiny couscous pearls.
The steak frites were mediocre (the fries were better than the steak), my scallops so-so, and the duck ravioli a disaster. You can't win 'em all.
