My wife and I went to Metro Cafe the other night and came away quite pleased.
I got the Deluxe Burger ($6.95) and my wife got the Blue Burger ($6.95). The Deluxe burger comes with mushrooms, bacon and cheese, while the Blue burger is blue cheese and bacon.
My burger was great. It's a thin style patty made of Niman Ranch beef but despite being thin was a substantial burger - it was a good 6 or 7 inches in diameter. The patty was nicely charred, juicy and very tasty. The bun was soft but substantial enough to absorb all of the juices. The burger also comes topped with mayo, mustard, ketchup, lettuce, tomatoes, onions and pickles.
My main complaint has to do with the toppings - there were far too few mushrooms on the Deluxe Burger and I could barely notice their contribution. We also ordered a side of onion rings ($2.95) and while tasty with a nice crisp coating - was much too small. We ordered the "large" side order thinking it would be enough for two. It came with only 7 onion rings.
In addition to burgers they offer cheese steaks, hot dogs, chicken wings, and a variety of side dishes (tater-tots, fries, deep fried cheese, mushrooms and zuchini etc.).
I live in the neighborhood and will probably use Metro as my burger-fix spot. It's certainly better then Burger Joint and its price ($5.50-$7) put it above the more expensive "pub style" from Burgermeister ($7-13) which is also Niman Ranch beef. I also recommend it above Rosamunde sausages for people looking for a post drinking protein fix in lower haight (You can get a burger cheaper then a sausage!)
