I had dinner at Metrazur, Charlie Palmer's new restaurant on the East Balcony of Grand Central, this past Friday.
The atmosphere is very nice, and the crowd is "business casual" - not too many ties, not too many jeans. The view of the Constellations on the ceiling is spectacular now that it is fully restored. The food is American with eclectic/international touches.
We had a great tuna tartare appetizer which had soy sauce in it, as well as a warm duck confit on a bed of lettuce starter that was ok/good. Our waitress informed us that the bouillabaisse had been sent back frequently in the first few months, but that had ceased to happen regularly, so we tried it and it was actually very good. We also had a steak, with truffled mashed potatoes that were yummy. We tried their selection of 3 artisanal cheeses, which were nothing to write home about. I was pleasantly suprised by Metrazur and would recommend it (except for the cheeses).
We were able to walk in on a Friday evening, without a reservation and be seated within 15 minutes.
Beforehand, I checked out Campbell Apartment, the bar in Grand Central that was featured in New York magazine some months back, and it didn't look as cool in person as it did in the photographs!
