Messini vs Anesti - Why would people pay double the money to eat similar food at the latter??

Charles Yu | Jul 5, 201808:01 PM     4

Take Greek style charcoal grilled Calamari or Octopus as an example. The recipe/formula = Charcoal grill, Calamari/Octopus marinated with Greek Oregano, pepper, sea salt, Olive oil. lemon juice/balsamic vinegar.

Question: How can a place like Anesti Taverna on Danforth charge a whopping $17/$26 for an appetizer Calamari/Octopus dish, when Messini, a few shops down the road offers IMHO, the same, equally tasty if not more generous portion dishes at only $11/10??!!

Attached photos showed the really delicious and amazingly priced delicacies of Messini's. The Grilled calamari in particular was one of the best tasting charbroiled dish I had in Toronto this year! So well marinated, darn flavorful and soooo cheap! The smokey and tender octopus came a close second.
Lamb and Beef Kebabs were nicely seasoned but unfortunately a bit dry :( !!
The tasty and generous Pork Gyro sandwich at $6 was a steal!
So, back to my original question: Why would people willing to pay DOUBLE the money to eat similar quality food at Anesti???
