Mersini - bland in the beaches

bennett | Jan 30, 2002 02:04 PM

I just had one of the worst meals I've eaten in probably ten years. It was at Mersini in the beaches area of Toronto on Queen ST. E.

The decor was brutal eighties (all it needed was the Hughey Lewis soundtrack) but the food was nasty. For five bucks I got the smallest plate of eggplant dip I've ever had. I wondered how it could have tasted of absolutely nothing -no lemon, no garlic, and even no eggplant! Then I had a grilled vegetable tortilla which consisted of some ultra-bland vegetables with some semi-melted processed mozzarella inside. Iceberg lettuce salad on the side. Nine bucks, please! I hope it either goes broke or sticks to serving Dufflet's cakes (which is proudly displays in a glass case -the same cakes every other resto in Toronto has) which they of course don't make.
