Mermaid Inn Disappointment

Hello All,
We had a very mediocre experience tonight at Mermaid Inn. When we arrived, a very disinterested waitress took our drink orders and then told us "There's no more lobster rolls." Of course that is what I wanted to try but we decided to stay and try some other things.

We started with oysters and one of them was rotten. I have never had this happen (and I eat a lot of oysters) although I have heard it does happen even at good places. My girlfriend, who got the rotten oyster asked for some water with lemon and maybe some mint to help get the repulsive taste out of her mouth. The manager came over and also brought a soda with bitters to use as a palate cleanser which did the trick nicely.

We then had the gaspacho which I thought was too salty but which my girlfriend enjoyed. The tomato salad was superb and the rock shrimp fritters were good.

As we asked for the check, the table next too us sent back their oysters. One of the members of their party had also eaten a rotten one. The manager came out once again and brought them three more oysters which they told us were too fishy to eat.

My major disappointment came when I saw that we were not offered even a small discount on the bill. We were even charged the full price for the oysters! Perhaps the soda to cleanse the palate was enough to make ammends in their eyes but it didn't seem to cut it at a place of this caliber.

Has anyone else had experiences like this at Mermaid? Is it possible we just caught them on a bad night? Thanks for your feedback. Just wanted to share.
