Meritage Wine Bar - review

While looking for a sunny patio and cold beer, I stumbled on to this place Sunday evening. The sunny patio I found but opted for a pineapple mojito instead - a nice drink, faintly sweet, but more tart than anything. Meritage has been on my 'list' for a while now. It was worth the impromptu visit.
I wasn't planning on eating dinner there, but once I saw the menu and decent prices, and got comfy on the patio with my dog at my feet, I had to indulge. The mussels were on the 'starters/small plates' part of the menu, but the order was quite generous. A pound or more of plump, tender mussels in a curry/coconut broth, quite spicy, not oily, not too 'coconut-y'. The server brought some nice chewy baguette to start, with olive oil, romemary and balsamic to dip the bread in.
A couple beside me were served this bread as well, even though they were jsut having drinks, no food.
Back to the mussels. The mussels were served with 'frites', which were fresh and hot, and perhaps hand-cut, judging by the slight variations in size.
My bill for a cocktail and the mussels/frites was $20, including tax! What a steal for a delicios meal! And they brought my pooch a bowl of water - in a proper dish.
