Anyone tried Mercola's enamel cast iron cookware?

Question

After scrolling through the hype on this website, I found two very reasonably priced enamel cast iron cookware sets. http://products.mercola.com/cast-iron-cookware/#ordernow

Anyone have any experience with them? I recently purchased two Rachael Ray enamel cast iron pieces and would like to expand my collection without going broke.

Though I generally disagree with Kagemusha's knee-jerk reaction to non-French enameled cast iron, I would not do business with Mercola. Can't stand fear-mongering tactics. Besides, if you're going to go with cheapo enameled cast iron, you can get cheaper than Mercola too unless you really want all those pieces. And you want to buy cheap enameled cast iron only where you can inspect it and/or return it easily. It's heavy to ship, so generally this means you want to go look at it in the store, where you can pass it over if it doesn't look that great.

I am a die hard LeCreuset fan for enameled cookware. Yes, it's expensive but it is an investment to last a lifetime. I am fortunate to have outlet stores in my area and a family friend who works there so I get the outlet price plus 50% off. I've been slowly buying up pieces to add to my collection.

I've seen this his videos on YouTube... I would heartily aggree with CrazyOne about the fear mongering -- he says everything is bad for you! Except this product, which he happens to sell. His science is poor -- Flourine destroying to ozone layer? Come on, at least Wiki it, if not actually do some research. All of his garabage sciencetific medical videos rant about Teflon (and the ozone destroying Flourine they release) which then conveniently morphs into an infomercial... all for our safety. Please, do not give this man a penny of your money!

I bought this set of cookware about nine months ago and it has been great. It's the only cookware we use and have found no negatives. Dr. Mercola is good at hyping his products but there are other companies and products he speaks highly of that he has no profit from. One of the most neutral reviewers I have seen is naturalnews.com.

I bought the whole Dr Mercola set 5 weeks ago and the following happened:
first and foremost: the packaging was terribly smeilling: benzene in the plastic!

I found the quality of the pots (I checked the blue enamel carefully) not that good but dismissed that thought and started cooking. A month later the largest cooking pan lost the blue color on the bottom and the iron appeared with lots of rust. I looked at it under the microscope and saw it was entirely rusted and dangerous for the health as anything.

I had to throw the pan away and with that all cookingware. I went back to my (first) quality stainless steel pots and pans and am happy I did.

Ofcourse I sent a big complaint to Mercola but have not heard from them.

Their cookingware is of a third grade quality.

i bought it...loved it for a while. one of the pieces now has enamel bubbling up and breaking off :0(.
i am now looking for a saucepan again...it lasted about 1.5 years

Mercola is a quack, a scam-artist, and a liar. I wouldn't trust him to tell me it's raining if we were both standing in a monsoon.

Also, I don't think the Mercola cookware is enamel cast iron. It's some kind of ceraminc polymer. In typical Mercola fashion, he won't reveal the chemical make-up.

Hah! If you follow any of the links above, or search for "cast iron" on the Mercola site, you'll find that he's no longer hawking enameled cast iron cookware. He's replaced that with glass cookware. The old cast iron URL actually redirects to his latest offering. Nary a word to be said about the crappy cast iron stuff anywhere.

I got Mercola's enamel coated cast iron set last year for Christmas. It sucks. It rusts pretty quick. Worse yet, I just put a roast in the oval cooker in the oven. The lid started to melt @350. My house smells like toxic plastic waste. Shouldn't that have been part of the testing--to put the LID IN AN OVEN AND TURN IT UP TO THE TEMPERATURE AT WHICH EVERY BODY COOKS AT HOME?!

Think I might have to pursue legal action if this lid turns out to be toxic and my whole family is inhaling the fumes. 

I'll never buy anything from Mercola again.

Stick with Staub and LC. You won't be disappointed. It's worth the investment. I can't believe I fell for it. If it seems too good to be true, IT IS!

It's a great irony that Mercola is touting cheap Made in China enameled cast iron (ECI). Many of these products showed heavy metal contamination in lab testing; arsenic, mercury, and lead were all found, but none in any sample of Staub or Le Creuset (LC). All three of those heavy metals are much worse for you (obviously!) than excessive iron.

As most people have found, cheap ECI chips and rusts easily. It's not a bargain at any price if you're just going to throw it away after a couple of years.

I have a small ECI saucepan made by LC from 1960 that is perfect except from a single small burn mark on its wooden handle. I also have a black 24 round roaster from LC that is used three to five times a week -- since 1994 -- that is perfect except for cosmetic wear to the enamel on the inside bottom of the pot. Oven, stovetop, refrigerator, dishwasher, they do it all... and they have a lifetime warranty. Money well spent, in my opinion.

mercola cookware my A$$, its not his product/idea/concept/ANYTHING, hes just purchasing it from one company and selling it to unsuspecting naive victims of his fear mongering rantings.

Sorry I didnt know the caps were on, I hunt and peck, and Im not going to retype it-lol. I have contacted this con man several times regarding many of "his" so-called products, and get the run around every time until they just run out of flip flop answers and stop responding. This joker also sells a Bidet that he pulls the same scam on. the list is endless, So needless to say, do not waste your time with this used bed salesman, and help out others by posting and informing the public as often as you can to save others from such a fate. mercolas enamel cast iron cookware has gone by the wayside years ago. there were problems with it chipping apart. since then he has switched to the same ceramic black non toxic cookware that is sold also by others on the market. it is great because it is non toxic, but terrible because it is fragile as glass. unless you are alone in your home and extremely careful I doubt your purchase will last more than 2 years. so as of this time, no one is making non toxic cookware that is practical to use. it doesn't yet exist. many of us would prefer completely non toxic cookware, but presently we must accept semi non toxic. mercola hasn't solved this problem yet, nor has anyone else.
