Following the recommendation from the food critic in the Philadelphia Weekly, we of Center City who are innundated with restaurants decided to try the Mercer Cafe in Port Richmond. The food was remarkable! My choice was an omelet with Jersey tomatoes and basil accompanied by home fries and buttered rye toast. My wife ordered (and we shared) the best french toast either of us had ever had. Made from thick pieces of hallah and swimming in buttery syrup and mascarpone it was truly an unexpected gourmet experience. Breakfast is served all day (until 3pm) and the list of special sandwiches and salads made us want to return so that we can try the other items, that is, if we can resist ordering the french toast again.
