Menu ideas to go with Split Pea Soup

SarahCW | Dec 27, 201407:09 PM     23

Hello folks!
I've invited my folks over for dinner next week. I told them if they let me have the ham bone from the Christmas ham, I'd make them split pea soup. So that is on the menu. I also plan on making a couple of loaves of bread and either a pear or apple cake. But this doesn't seem like enough food. I had my folks over after Thanksgiving for turkey soup, salad, and bread with a cranberry upside down cake, and it didn't feel like enough food. They ate a lot of bread.

I feel like split pea soup is too hearty to be an appetizer, but maybe a more hearty salad or side dish? My mom is not a fan of most vegetable side dishes. I was thinking of roasting some potatoes and having some extra ham that they could eat on the side or with the soup if they wanted.

Any ideas are welcome!
