Raving about the Franklin Cafe is nothing new on this board, and I've certainly gotten my licks in: it has long been my favorite bar on this side of the Charles, in large part due to the high quality of the food served. Crew of six tonight enjoyed:
Bluefish, grilled, sauced with cream, sweet corn and small shrimp, side of scallion custard. Huge, $17, phenomenal. (Two of us got this.)
App of mussels, open-fire grilled rather than in the usual fennel-scented broth, amazing, huge portion.
Special of grilled swordfish, not my favorite fish, but beautifully done.
Spinach linguine primavera, fresh and green tasting (two orders).
Stuffed artichoke app and stuffed chicken entree.
This may not sound like it, but we kind of overordered. Beautiful cocktails, as always, merely okay wines by the glass, better half-bottles, which are only slightly pricier and much tastier.
Friendly, efficient service, as always. Cool recorded music, as always. Another in an unbroken skein of great evenings here.
