Memphis notes

Tater | Apr 30, 200304:00 PM

I've been back in Memphis about 4 months now and thought I would post some notes.

Overall, the quality of "cheap" food here is head and shoulders above Atlanta. From BBQ to southern/soul/meatn3 to hamburger joints. I can name a couple of each I would prefer over any ONE in Atlanta, so here they are:
BBQ Shop--excellent sandwich
Cozy Corner--2nd best wet ribs ever (thanks Randall)
Paynes--another excellent sandwich

Southern/soul/meat and 3
the cupboard
Leach Family (will post mroe after a couple of visits)
Blue Plate

Moving up in the price range, Memphis suffers greatly compared to Atlanta. I've tried the Moroccan Cafe (good falafel and shewarma), Harry's Detour (not up to my expectations) and Wally Joe (not worth the $$$ for us that night). My wife tried the Beauty Shop...good but not as good as expected. We both need to go back for a fair review.

Other notables:
Blue Monkey has good pizza and bar food. Who in this town has decent wings, though???

Good to great sandwiches from Fino's and nearby Kwik Chek.

Good lunch today at Taqueria Guadalupana. Excellent tacos--esp the pork...

Finally, the best for last. Has anyone mentioned Bryant's here? It's on Summer and called Bryant's BBQ Breakfast. Don't even think about the 'q. Get ham...preferably a ham bisquit. Ham and egg bisquit+ham bisquit is my breakfast of choice in town right now. Open 6am to 1pm daily.

Sorry for the stream of conciousness/scatterbrained post. I don't have enough on any to post a full review, but I thought I could dump some early info.
