I ate at Memphis for the first time the other nite, after hearing a lot about it. The gumbo was good, but not great - it lacked any real direction. The house salad was really good with walnuts, hicamu and a subtle sherry vinegrette to compliment the nice mix of greens. The desert was a let down. I ordered the burboun pecan tart, which was as non-descript as a desert can get - easily the first time I've had a pecan dessert where the pecans were not noticable. The vibe of the place more than made up for the lack of direction in the food - it really is a cool spot.
