First-time poster here. Want to thank everyone for their recommendations of places to eat in Fort Myers, Bonita Springs, and Naples. I consulted the boards--and then read many restaurant menus online--before a trip last weekend to the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point. Coming from Chicago, we are spoiled by diverse and quality dining options, and we like to keep that standard when we travel. It was important to us to find cheaper and more varied options than the hotel might offer, and I'm happy to report we were not disappointed.
On our first day we had a tasty and cheap lunch at Buffalo Chips in Bonita Springs. We sat ourselves at the Chicago Bears table and tucked into some excellent beer-battered mushrooms with homemade ranch dressing. I also recommend the fish tacos--very fresh and a good-sized portion.
For dinner that night we'd made a reservation at Cru in Fort Myers. This was to be our high-price meal of the weekend, but it was far less than we anticipated. We feasted on several small plates and shared a Chilean sea bass special entree. Nothing disappointed, but the standouts were the scallop tapas, kobe meatballs, minestrone, and truffle fries. We also shared a very good and affordable bottle of sauvignon blanc. Service was great. We didn't leave ourselves room for dessert, but our neighbors looked happy with their selections.
For lunch the next day we headed to EVOO Market and Bistro in Naples. As it was Sunday the bistro was closed for lunch, but we had plenty of options at the market's deli counter. I recommend the deli combo (?), which includes half a sandwich, soup, pasta or potato salad, and a drink for $7.50. Finally, for our last dinner in town we chose sushi at Tokyo Bay in Bonita Springs. From our seats at the sushi bar we were able to chat with the chef and sample his recommendations. The fish is fresh, the rolls are creative, and the presentation is gorgeous.
Hope other travelers to the area have similarly memorable dining experiences!
