Melted marshmellow to stablize whipped cream?

It's rare now that I see something I don't know on Food TV, but this weekend I did. On Food 911, Tylor Florence was making something I forgot, but it called for whipped cream. He said his all time secret was to microwave one large marshmellow and stir that into soft peak cream and whip to hard peaks. Doing that is suppose to keep the cream stablized.
Anyone know of this? Tried it?
