Mela in Neerob's neighborhood

Waterbury Ave. between Havemeyer and Zerega Aves., Parkchester, Bronx

Last year a "Bangladeshi block party" was held in July on Starling Ave., home to Neerob and several other Bangladeshi businesses; I wasn't able to stop by. This year's festival, even closer to the subway, is labeled a Boishakhee mela -- a New Year festival -- which in Bangladesh would take place in mid-April. Perhaps, as with the Burmese water festival, which in Manhattan isn't held until hot weather arrives, climatic conditions are important to the spirit of the event. Some like it hot.

I know nothing about the participants or the food, but this seems a promising occasion to take a flyer.

2109 Starling Ave, Bronx, NY 10462
