As I was wandering through Old Town Fairfax today I was thinking about the thread of some time ago about chicken tikka masala at just about the same time that I stumbled upon Mehfil, an Indian place that I had tried some time ago (before I knew of this board). As it was lunch time I decided to pop in and see if they had CTM on the menu; indeed they did, but they also had what looked like a rather promising buffet that was being offered for the bargain price of $6.95. I decided to throw caution to the wind and give it a try.

Well, what a surprise! For such a low price, they offered an amazingly good lunch, with a soup (which I did not try), salad (ditto), condiments, and several hot dishes. Today's selection included: vegetable samosas (very tasty, though not too crisp, as a result of being prepared in advance), tandoori chicken (not at all dry, very succulent), palak paneer (one of my favorite dishes, and excellent here), a potato dish whose name escapes me, a wonderful dal dish, curry chicken (the weakest dish on offer, but still quite good), butter chicken (an incredibly rich and flavorful dish, satisfying my CTM craving, and my favorite dish of the buffet), and gulab jamon. They also bring to your table a large basket of freshly baked naan (incredible). All this for less than $7!!

They do this lunch buffet daily, though on Friday and Saturday they call it a brunch, offer more dishes, and charge a dollar more.
