Just tried the new Med Grill in Hillcrest on University across from Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream. We had the hummus which was nicely creamy with a light olive oil that suited it perfectly. I have been trying to find a good hummus in the area and was happy to find it. I don't care much for the hummus at Mama's Lebanese.
I do however, like the saaj bread and sandwiches at Mama's quite a bit. I must say though, I like Med Grill more. They are a bit of a different style though so others may disagree.
At Med Grill, we had two of the pita sandwiches - the falafel sandwich, which was well spiced, but not overly so. And a chicken sandwich with garlic sauce that I don't remember the name of (not the shouwerma). The chicken was moist and flavorful and the garlic wasn't overpowering - at least for my taste, but I am an admitted garlic lover.
Both sandwiches were $6 each and came with a side salad that was ok, but not memorable. However, I saw a rather large and wonderful looking chicken salad delivered to a table near by and promised to return to try it.
They also have more expensive dinner plates in the $12 -$20 range that we didn't try and since we can get a great sandwich for $6, we probably won't try them.
Has anyone else tried this place? What did you think?
