Meat Local Hangs Right

We here in Austin place a certain premium on the "quality of the hang" that a particular joint provides...I was lead to Live Oak BBQ on East 2nd St., just before Pleasant Valley, half-split-second east of downtown by all the right notes...Park in the shade, enveloped by the smoke of Pit-Master Tom's bounty...let it draw you in..."Why the f@*^k haven't I found this joint yet"...spend a little or a lot, taste juicy wonderments one at a time,...hang...at Live Oak. Engage with this pleasure-palace of carnivore delites for a little while, or as long as you can, because as great as the chow is -- cuke salad! Air Conditioner of my Soul...the hang at this done-right east-side hole-in-the-wall matches it. I yearn for his just-leathery-enough peppercorn-crusted chicken, lovingly moist under a mahogany skin...this smokin' cat renders out the fat, as if in a duck, and produces what wildmen (well, me) believe to be Austin's best smoked chix...The pork is, in their signature style, not overcooked to the point that it can be pulled. You'll find meats toothsome here, including their juicy 'n ' marbled brisket, while their Pork Steak may well be the crux of the biscuit...not pulled pork, not pork(tender)loin, it's a well-smoked, well-marbled hunk of Boston butt, actually prepared by a chef who has the good taste & sense to use smoking as both a cooking and a flavoring element, while effectively balancing the smoking to it's greatest affect, without overcooking or over-smoking his meats. Slices of smoky, caramelized meat-cooked-right...Oh, yeah...sides! Rock! Pies...ohohoh, The Pies...Beer...Cider...Hang, y'all !!!
