Measuring Dissolved Sugar in g/mL for Already-Mixed Syrups

I'm looking to get a better sense of dissolved sugar in a solution (both homemade and store-bought), in order to do a more precise calculation on slush cocktails in particular and to help provide more precise approaches in recipe development, in order to narrow the number of trials. I am not sure how to do it. I think a hydrometer could work, but I'm not 100% sure.
