We tried two new (to us) restaurants this weekend. Both had received glowing reviews on the board and we were excited to have some new "finds".
On Friday we went to Serendipity. In short it was a disappiontment. The sushi was just ok with the prices higher and portions smaller than our current fav Mikado. I ordered the pad thai. All I could taste was heat. It had so little flavor that I poured soy sauce over the entire dish. Same for the shrimp tempura roll. All heat no flavor.
Saturday we tried Caffe Casta Diva. What a delightful evening! Thanks SylviaG, you haven't failed us yet. Upon entering the lovely townhome setting we were immediately ushered to our table. The tables are far enough apart that it feels like fine dining. A rarity today. We started with the grilled mushrooms and tomatoes caprese. Both were excellent. As a second we shared the crepes with ricotta. Fabulous! One portion is more than enough for two to share. For entree we had the chicken, veal rolls and veal chop. All were terrific and served with roasted potatoes and haricot vert.
For dessert I had the cannoli. I rarely order cannoli because I find them too heavy. After reading that they have a whipped cream filling I figured that they would be to my liking. I guess as a result of the feedback they reverted to the more traditional filling. They were heavy but still very good. My sig had the chocolate espresso creme brulee. It disappeared before I could give it a try. Our friends shared the homemade chocolate gelato which they enjoyed.
Dinner came to $90 for two.
