The MCS restaurant responds to the melt down of the up
market downtown restaurant business by recasting itself as an american bistro w/ entrees in the $12-$15
range. Several hundred of "those in the know" showed up last week for a pre-grand opening party. They were
treated to limitless "wood oven roasted Monterey cala-
mari w/ smoked paprika aioli" (moist,greaseless-xclnt)
and "traditional tarte flambee w/ Bellwether farm cheese ans smoked ham(the ultimate thin crust pizza).
An unusual appetizer was smoked sturgeon w/ Tennessee
Paddlefish caviar. On the regular menu is: Yukon Terr-
itory Arctic Char ($13),roasted squab w/ chickpea-
parsley cake($15) and cervena venison chop w/ oyster mushrooms. The comped wines were Wairau River Sauvignon
Blanc(N.Z), Argyle Chardonnay(Oregon),Rutz Cellars
Pinot Noir(Sonoma) and Compte A. de Pampierre Champagne
Cuvee des Ambassadeurs Brut Premier.
Also featured was a large contingent of the self-appointed "free food and drink society"-those overly
entitled freeloaders that haunt restaurant openings and distinguish them selves by their boorish manners and out of style apparel.
