•I spent the morning at St. Barnabas Medical Center undergoing a very uncomfortable test. So I decided to 5treat myself to lunch at the new McLoone’s Boathouse Restaurant in West Orange. It is in a lovely spot and the venue is beautiful – as it should be. On another thread, our foodie friend mentioned that the place cost the Essex County taxpayers (thank you) 4 million dollars.
They were doing a brisk business, but service was very prompt. For a starter, I ordered a traditional French Onion Soup (7.95). It was served with a small portion of fried frizzled onions on top. The broth was very tasty with a large portion of onion. My only complaint with the soup was that it could have used a little more cheese. There was a roll and butter on the side, which I didn’t taste.
I really had a difficult time deciding what I wanted for lunch as the menu had some nice selections. I decided on a Patty Melt. An Angus beef burger perfectly cooked to medium. The burger was served with a small portion of cole slaw and a pickle spear. The cost was $12.95. I ordered a side of Sweet Potato Fries at a cost of $2.95. They were fantastic (IMO). They had a different taste and I asked the waitress what it was. She told me they were lightly sprinkled with cinnamon. They tasted like Thanksgiving. YUM!
As I mention before the space is beautiful, the outdoor area just lovely and the service was professional and prompt. The prices were a little high for lunch (my bill came to $27.00 without the tip) but I will return as there were many more items on the menu that sounded promising.
